With motorcycle riding season in full swing, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) today announced that openings are still available in upcoming motorcycle training courses.
Training courses are for any Illinois resident 16 years of age or older who holds a valid automobile or motorcycle driver’s license or permit.
Although designed for the novice rider as part of the Cycle Rider Safety Training Program (CRSTP), experienced riders also can gain from the BRC training. The course will include approximately 20 hours of instruction. Participants will receive a course textbook, seven hours of classroom instruction and 13 hours of “hands-on” cycle instruction. The Basic Riding Course will give participants the physical skills and knowledge needed to ride properly and safely.

UTICA - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will host a public hearing Thursday, Sept. 18, regarding the preliminary engineering study to replace the Illinois 178 bridge over the Illinois River, in Utica. The proposed project includes constructing a replacement bridge east of the existing bridge, while maintaining traffic on the existing bridge. This will require the re-alignment of a portion of Illinois 178. A shared-use path will be constructed along the east side of Illinois 178 from Donaldson Street to Starved Rock Road to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists. Following construction of the new bridge, the existing bridge will be removed. The hearing will be conducted in an open-house format, and all information will be available from 4 to 7 p.m.

Schneider announced today that 422 volunteers collected and removed almost 800 bags of trash from state highway roadsides as part of the inaugural Adopt-A-Highway spring cleanup April 18-27. Coinciding with Earth Day celebrations held throughout April, the Illinois Department of Transportation initiative encouraged Adopt-A-Highway participants to target their designated sections of highway over the 10-day period to remove litter and debris that had accumulated over the winter.
