Twenty years after Illinois' 0.08 DUI law enacted, alcohol-impaired crash fatalities down significantly

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police joined members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists at the Illinois State Fair today to remind motorists of the importance of driving sober, 20 years after Illinois' implementation of its 0.08 DUI legislation.

Public Meeting on Springfield’s Third Street Rail Corridor

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation will host a public meeting Thursday, Aug. 17, to discuss improvements to the Third Street railroad corridor as part the ongoing Chicago-to-St. Louis passenger rail improvements. Information on construction impacts, including where and when work will take place as well as details on the benefits of the completed project, will be available for the public to review and ask questions.

Reminder: Traffic Patterns Change Aug. 10 for Illinois State Fair

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Agriculture remind motorists of changing traffic patterns around the Illinois State Fairgrounds to accommodate the influx of vehicles during the fair.

Beginning at 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, IDOT will change the flow of traffic to one way counter-clockwise. In addition, both the eastbound and westbound turn lanes at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Eighth Street will be closed. Portable signs will be set up to inform motorists of the changes. Normal traffic patterns will resume by 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21.

I-74 River Bridge Mussel Relocation Effort Wins Environmental Excellence Award

Quad Cities - The Iowa and Illinois departments of transportation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and other project contributors are recipients of the Federal Highway Administration's 2017 Environmental Excellence Award for Environmental Research. The award recognizes the work that went into relocating several species of mussels prior to the start of the Interstate 74 Mississippi River Bridge project

Eclipse Preparation Underway at IDOT

SPRINGFIELD - Although the sun might go missing for a little while, the Illinois Department of Transportation promises to stay active leading up to the solar eclipse to make sure traffic keeps moving and the traveling public remains safe. Carbondale is in the path of the total eclipse, making it one of the prime viewing areas in the country for the Aug. 21 event. The rest of the state will experience a partial eclipse of approximately 90 percent.

Eisenhower Improvement Project Receives Federal Approval

Passenger Rail Station in Downtown Pontiac Opens

PONTIAC - Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blackenhorn was joined today by city officials and Amtrak to announce the completion of the new station in historic downtown Pontiac, the latest of several station improvements overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation along the Chicago-St.Louis passenger rail corridor. The new station opens to Amtrak service beginning Tuesday, June 6.

Torrence Avenue Reopens over the Grand Calumet River

Illinois Awarded Funds to Offer Advanced Training on Detecting Impaired Driving

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois is one of five states to receive a federal training grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Association and the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility to combat drug-impaired driving. The grant, to be administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, will fund 10 Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) classes statewide. This is the second year Illinois has received the funding.

IDOT Announces State Funding for Chicago Bridge Inspections
