IDOT Celebrates Earth Day by Distributing Trees to Schools

SPRINGFIELD — In observance of Earth Day, the Illinois Department of Transportation distributed almost 5,000 oak seedlings to schools throughout the state in cooperation with Living Lands & Waters. The trees were provided free of charge to IDOT as part of Living Lands & Waters Million Trees Project.

Earth Day Honor: IDOT Recognizes Longtime Adopt-A-Highway Volunteers

SPRINGFIELD – In recognition of Earth Day this weekend, the Illinois Department of Transportation is honoring the Adopt-A-Highway groups that have been keeping Illinois roadways clean since the program started more than 20 years. The milestone was marked by a ceremonial tree-planting at IDOT's headquarters to recognize the longtime volunteers and highlight the agency’s commitment to green and sustainable practices.

New Siemens Charger Locomotives Begin Testing

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that new Siemens SC-44 Charger locomotives have begun testing in Illinois. The testing is expected to last through Sunday, April 23, with the locomotives expected to go into full-time service later this spring.

Gear Up - Ride Smart

SPRINGFIELD — With spring cruising in and motorcycle season shifting into top gear, the Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police remind motorcyclists to “Gear Up–Ride Smart” to ensure their safety before taking the first ride of the season. The annual campaign urges riders to take precautionary measures before getting back on their bikes by conducting pre-ride safety inspections of their equipment and refreshing their skills with a motorcycle training class offered by IDOT.

Construction Season Begins, Caution Needed Behind the Wheel

IDOT Announces State Funding for Chicago Bridge Inspections

I-55 Managed Lane Project in Hands of General Assembly; Millions in Private Investment, Jobs, Congestion at Stake

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today the refiling of the joint resolution to advance the I-55 Managed Lane project as a possible public-private partnership (P3) that would invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Illinois infrastructure at minimal cost to taxpayers, create thousands of jobs and reduce congestion in one of the state’s critical travel corridors. In order to keep the project on track and the procurement process alive, the resolution must be passed by the General Assembly in the next few weeks.
