The Illinois Department of Transportation has initiated a preliminary engineering and environmental study (Phase I) for the improvement of Barrington Road from Mundhank Road to IL 62 in the Village of South Barrington in Cook County. This improvement is included in the Department’s FY 2017-2022 Proposed Highway Improvement Program. Our current engineering efforts are targeted to enable a contract letting in the middle years of our current multi-year program contingent upon plan readiness, land acquisition, and funding availability through our future annual legislative appropriations. The proposed project is anticipated to consist of capacity and safety improvements, as well as bicycle and pedestrian accommodations and drainage improvements.
The study is using the Context Sensitive Solutions process, which is a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach that involves all stakeholders in the development of the proposed improvement. Note: IDOT projects typically have three distinct phases. Phase I (or the project Study) consists of developing the project scope, environmental studies and preliminary design of a project. Phase II (Design) consists of refining the design to develop contract plans and land acquisition. Phase III (Construction) consists of the actual construction of the project.
COMMUNITY ADVISORY GROUP (CAG)
CAG Meeting No. 1 - February 9, 2016
The first Community Advisory Group meeting provided an overview of CAG member involvement and the preliminary engineering and Phase I study process for the Barrington Road Project. The project team presented transportation issues identified in the study area and solicited community input and concerns. Together, the project team as well as CAG members developed and came to a general understanding of agreement on the Problem Statement for the project. Preliminary alternatives to alleviate the transportation issues were presented and discussions were initiated in order to gather any further solutions.
CAG Meeting No. 2 – December 7, 2016
The second Community Advisory Group meeting reviewed the project problem statement developed during the first CAG meeting, presented new information, discussed the potential transportation solutions considered and evaluated, and reviewed the draft proposed improvement plan.

A final Community Advisory Group meeting may be held, if needed, to provide an update prior to the public meeting.
