IDOT Region 2
Region 2 stretches from Jo Daviess County in the northwestern corner of Illinois where Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois adjoin with the Mississippi River, south to Rock Island County and then east to Kankakee and Iroquois counties and the Indiana border. IDOT Region 2 includes District 2 and District 3 and covers a total of 19 counties. About 29,683 centerline miles of roads span the region, including 3,298 state system miles. Within Region 2 boundaries is beautiful terrain carved out by the flow of the Mississippi and Illinois rivers.
The Great River Road, Illinois Lincoln
Highway, Historic Route 66, and Illinois River Road, four of Illinois’ scenic byways, journey through Region 2’s dynamic terrain.
This charming environment, from prairies to rolling hills hosts numerous rail lines and inter-modal centers; passenger rail to and from Chicago and points west; numerous bike paths and bike friendly roadways; and numerous airports including United Parcel Service's second largest domestic sorting hub at Rockford.
