The General Assembly established the Illinois Unmanned Aerial System Oversight Task Force (IUASOTF) to provide oversight and input in creating comprehensive laws and rules for the operation and use of drone technology within Illinois, subject to federal oversight and regulation.
Public Act 99-392 (20 ILCS 5065/) created the IUASOTF; IDOT’s Division of Aeronautics was statutorily designated to chair the Task Force. The Task Force will study and make recommendations for the operation, usage, and regulation of Unmanned Aerial Systems in Illinois. The Task Force is responsible for preparing comprehensive recommendations for the safe and lawful operation of UAS and must submit a report with recommendations to the Governor and general Assembly no later than July 1, 2016.
