U.S. 52-Illinois 64 bridge to reopen in Savanna tonight
SAVANNA - The complimentary ferry service that has provided an alternative travel option during the construction of the U.S. 52 bridge in Sabula, Iowa, will be ending at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2.
The U.S. 52-Illinois 64 bridge between Sabula and Savanna is anticipated to open to traffic this evening, weather permitting. Intermittent lane closures will be necessary in the coming days, though traffic will be able to cross the bridge during this time.
The ferry service started June 12 to help travelers cross the Mississippi River as an alternative to the 36-mile detour through Clinton, Iowa.
The latest traveler information, including intermittent lane closures for this project, is available anytime through the Iowa Department of Transportation's 511 system. Visit 511ia.org, call 511 within Iowa or 800-288-1047 nationwide.
