IDOT is committed to being accountable to the public for our work, and being transparent and open to scrutiny in the ways we go about doing that work. At IDOT, we represent and try to meet the best interests of all Illinois citizens, while providing efficient and effective travel options for businesses, industry, tourists, and individual travelers of every description.
Through the work we do, we strive to serve as an advocate and trusted adviser to state, local, and federal governments and other community agencies and partners involved in providing transportation access and services for all of Illinois. Illinois has one of the most diverse, multimodal transportation systems in the nation. As we look to the future and the changing demographics of our communities, we must proactively develop solutions that meet the transportation needs of the public. In the end, transportation is a strategy that will help us achieve our goals of growing Illinois’ economy and improving quality of life for residents of Illinois. The annual Traveler Opinion Survey reflects points of views from every region of the state. The survey has been done annually since 2000 to help IDOT record and track performance and public satisfaction levels on a variety of transportation issues, including the quality of the Illinois transportation system, roadway maintenance and traffic flow, road repair and construction, traveler services, commuting habits, safe driving measures and other state service priorities on topical transportation issues. Participants are asked a series of questions for each service area seeking ratings of IDOT services. Â
Survey results for each year are available on the IDOT website. These findings give IDOT a scientific overview of satisfaction levels concerning emerging transportation needs and public expectations among users of the Illinois transportation system. Opinions and results gathered from the survey each year also highlight IDOT’s commitment to continually improve all aspects of transportation in Illinois.
