Trails

Access bike maps for cyclists looking to explore Illinois’ scenic trail systems. Illinois has hundreds of miles of dedicated bicycle trails. Approximately 5,000 miles of the nearly 16,000-mile state highway system are considered suitable for cycling. Cycling opportunities are also possible on more than 100,000 miles of locally operated and maintained roadways with low traffic volumes and lower motor vehicle speeds.

Pedestrians also have the opportunity to enjoy many of the trails and paths that Illinois has to offer. Bicycling and walking can be used for shorter trips, longer trips, or recreationally. IDOT considers all users, including bicyclists and pedestrians, when building new or improving existing roadways.
