Illinois 173 From 0.4 miles west of the Village of Poplar Grove to Boone-McHenry County Line Road
The Illinois Department of Transportation is currently conducting a preliminary engineering and environmental study (Phase I) for the improvement of Illinois 173 in Boone County. The study limits include Illinois 173 beginning 0.4 miles west of the Village of Poplar Grove and extending east to Boone-McHenry County Line Road, over 8 miles.
The study involves improvements to the aging pavement of Illinois 173 including:
- Preservation of pavement through the Village of Poplar Grove.
- Rehabilitation of pavement through the rural highway sections.
- Reconstruction of pavement through the Village of Capron.
The project also includes drainage, culvert, and safety improvements as needed. Pedestrian, ADA and bicycle accommodations will also be considered per IDOT’s Complete Streets policy.
The proposed project would involve use of land from the Boone County Conservation District at the Tuttle Clarkson Natural Area and Long Prairie Trail. The proposed improvements are not expected to affect the activities, features or attributes that make the properties eligble for Section 4(f) protection. Through publication of this notice, the Department is requesting the public’s views on the proposed use of parkland, and on FHWA’s intent to make a Section 4(f) de minimus determination.
