Standard Specifications for Road & Bridge Construction

The Standard Specifications for Road & Bridge Construction establish the general requirements and contractual provisions applicable to all highway construction projects awarded by the department. They also include detailed requirements for materials, equipment, and construction methods for individual items of work.

The Supplemental Specifications contain additions and revisions to the Standard Specifications. They are considered part of the Standard Specifications and must always be used in conjunction with them. The Supplemental Specifications are updated annually.  Hard copies of the Supplemental Specifications are not sold separately. They are included with the purchase of the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction.

To purchase a hard copy of the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, including all associated Supplemental Specifications and Recurring Special Provisions, or Road, Bridge and Other Related Laws of Illinois please visit the department’s ePay site. Create an account, then select “Make a one-time payment” to place your order.

Note:

  • When you order the 2016 Standard Specifications, you will also receive the 2016–2021 supplements.
  • When you order the 2022 Standard Specifications, you will also receive the current supplements (2022–2026).

If you represent a state or local government entity, public university, or other public body, you may request a limited number of complimentary hard copies by completing the Public Officials Manual Order Form (BoBS 3900P). Requests must be submitted from the requester’s official work email account.
