GIS Data Share

IDOT is taking a leadership role in Illinois government to work towards developing and maintaining a GIS transportation framework layer. The “Intergovernmental Agreement for Sharing HERE Proprietary Data” provides the opportunity for interested Illinois governmental agencies to form geospatial data sharing cooperatives with IDOT. Currently, IDOT has more than forty organizations participating in the sharing program.

The HERE data sharing initiative offers roadway coverage that can be used for location analysis, routing, and other decision support applications for all persons requiring access and information about the state’s transportation network, while fostering relationships to further collaborate on changes and updates to the system. These efforts are working toward the establishment of a single roadway data source that can be used for congestion mitigation, planning, safety measures, emergency response, and other transportation related initiatives.
