Local Bridge Program
Local Public Agencies (LPAs) own over 18,000 public bridges and structures throughout the State of Illinois. IDOT supports LPAs with several grant programs specific to bridges and structures. A bridge is defined as any structure having a length greater than 20.0 feet.
Local Bridge Formula Program
The Local Bridge Formula Program (LBFP) provides federal funds for bridges that are structurally deficient and carried on a public road. See the latest Federal Funding Allotment Circular Letter for more information.
Township Bridge Program
The Township Bridge Program (TBP) is a state-funded program of $60 million per year for bridges on the township or road district system in accordance with 605 ILCS 5/6-901. The funds are allocated at the county level based on mileage. The funds lapse after four years if unused. See the latest Circular Letter for funding allocations.
Township Bridge Program Lapse Pool
Township Bridge Program Lapse Pool (TBP Lapse Pool) is a State-funded program to address the needs of township-owned bridges. It is funded with the unused funds from the Township Bridge Program and becomes available occasionally as funds are available.
Illinois Special Bridge Program
The Illinois Special Bridge Program (ISBP), formerly the Major Bridge Program, funds the rehabilitation and replacement of large, high-cost, deficient bridges whose repairs exceed the scope of more traditional bridge funding programs. Approximately $30 million in Federal funding is available annually.
Local Off-System Bridge Program
The Local Off-System Bridge Program (LOBP) is a new program from IDOT. The purpose of the LOB is to provide funding to replace or rehabilitate bridges located on roads that are not part of the federal highway system (identified in the HIghway Functional Classification System as Class 6 or Class 7) and have limited funding sources. Approximately $13 million per year is available through this program. LOBP is funded through federal dollars.
