Project Summary
The Project includes the replacement of the bridge carrying IL 4/15 over the Kaskaskia River, as well as two adjacent overflow structures located east of the river near Fayetteville in St. Clair County, Illinois. This bridge provides one of the few links across the Kaskaskia River in the region, serving the trucking and agricultural industries, in addition to commuters of neighboring towns to their destinations. Without this vital link across the Kaskaskia River, the shortest alternative route would add approximately 30 miles to a trip. The construction cost is estimated at $87,500,000.

Project Goals
- Reconstruct the truss bridge carrying IL 4/15 over the Kaskaskia River including approaches, overflow structures, and tie-ins to improve safety for bicycles and pedestrians, vehicular traffic, and farm traffic through the project area.
- Ensure that the existing bridge remains open to traffic or equivalent access is maintained during construction to minimize disruptions to local traffic, emergency services, and the farming community. Similarly, that the Kaskaskia River, a navigable waterway, remains open to recreational traffic during construction.
- Maintain a safe work zone and construction through effective risk identification and mitigation.
