Project Summary
The Project includes replacement of two aging bridges in Lasalle County, Illinois; the bridge carrying US 34/IL 23 over the Little Indian Creek, located 4 miles west of Somonauk, and the bridge carrying US 52 over the Fox River, located 2 miles west of IL 71. Replacing these bridges will support continued access for residents, businesses, emergency services, and visitors traveling through the area.
At both locations, the existing bridges will be removed and replaced with new structures designed to better serve today’s transportation needs and reduce long-term maintenance. The work will also include related roadway improvements, such as adjusting the road approaches, resurfacing pavement, adding paved shoulders, upgrading guardrail, relocating a driveway where needed, and completing grading within the project limits. The lump sum construction cost is $12,596,761.

Project Goals
- Improve the condition of US 30 pavement by replacing worn roadway surfaces and making the corridor smoother, more reliable, and easier to maintain for everyday travel.
- Reduce construction-related delays and access impacts as much as practical by planning the work to maintain local access, support downtown travel needs, and keep traffic moving during construction.
- Limit impacts to nearby historic properties and businesses during construction by identifying potential concerns early and coordinating work activities to reduce disruptions where feasible.
