Trucker Appreciation Events at Weigh Stations

The Illinois Department of Transportation is working with groups and organizations wanting to show their appreciation to truck drivers by providing free food to truckers.

These events will be held only at weigh stations, with a maximum time limit of 3 hours for each event. Events will not be held at rest areas.

Scheduling will be coordinated by IDOT and the Illinois State Police. Requests must be received at least five business days in advance.

The following weigh stations will be available for appreciation events for truck drivers:

• Interstate 55 southbound at Williamsville in Sangamon County – ISP District 9/IDOT District 6
• Interstate 57 northbound and southbound at Marion in Williamson County – ISP District 13/IDOT District 9
• Interstate 64 eastbound at O’Fallon in St. Clair County – ISP District 11/IDOT District 8
• Interstate 70 westbound at Clark in Clark County – ISP District 12/IDOT District 7
• Interstate 74 eastbound and westbound at Moline in Henry County – ISP District 7/IDOT District 2
• Interstate 80 eastbound and westbound at East Moline in Rock Island County –ISP District 7/IDOT District 2
• Interstate 70 eastbound at Brownstown in Fayette County – ISP District 12/IDOT District 7
• Events will be held on the bypass lane only. The use of the weigh station building will not be permitted unless there is an emergency.
• There will be strict criteria to participate, with the following questions asked upon arrival:
• Do you have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, sore throat, cough or runny nose?
• Have you traveled outside of Illinois in the last 14 days?
• Have you been in contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19?

Groups also will be required to follow these guidelines:

• Events will be held for no longer than 3 hours. They will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
• All items to be handed out must be free of charge.
• Food: Individually wrapped meals must be purchased from a licensed food establishment, have a label showing where it came from and be temperature controlled (if kept more than 4 hours from the time it’s picked up to when it’s eaten). Any leftover meals must be discarded.
• All volunteers on site must wear masks and all volunteers handling food must wear gloves.
• No more than 10 people may be on site, excluding truck drivers. Social distancing guidelines must be followed, with a minimum distance of 6 feet.
• Business advertising and solicitating for business will not be allowed.
• All trash generated by the event must be removed by the group.
• No onsite truck parking will be allowed during the event.

If groups cannot adhere to these rules, they will not be able to proceed. If the state police feel the situation is becoming in any way unsafe, the event will end. If troopers cannot be on site due to other calls for service, the event will need to stop.
