Will County - I-57 Access
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has begun preliminary engineering and environmental studies to improve access to Interstate 57 (I-57) from south Wilmington-Peotone Road to north of Manhattan-Monee Road in Will County. The anticipated scope of work consists of improvements to meet 2050 travel demand in the study area.
A public meeting was held on November 13, 2024, to provide an overview of the study, obtain public input regarding transportation needs, and highlight public involvement opportunities. View meeting materials under the Resources tab.
It is important to note that I-57 is classified as part of the Illinois Priority Freight Network and any improvements will need to accommodate large trucks and potential access to freight hubs, such as distribution centers and other Priority Freight Network corridors.
The study will review existing conditions and potential areas of improvement along the corridor to develop a proposed improvement for consideration.
IDOT projects typically have three distinct phases.
The I-57 Access Study is currently in Phase I, which includes data collection, identification of transportation issues and concerns, development of range of alternatives, and identification of the preferred alternative and its refinement. Phase I concludes with the approval of an environmental and engineering report which summarizes the study.
The Phase I for I-57 Access Study is anticipated to conclude in late 2027.

Additional information will be posted as it is developed. Please visit this page periodically for updates.
A public meeting was held on November 13, 2024 to introduce the project, receive public feedback regarding transportation needs and highlight public involvement opportunities including participation in the Community Advisory Group (CAG). The CAG serves as a liaison between the study team and the community, providing input on issues that are important to the community and contributing to the decision-making process.
Meeting at key milestones throughout Phase I, the CAG is intended to represent a cross section of the community, including community leaders, business owners, property owners, interested stakeholders/groups and others.
