Bituminous Chemistry

Bituminous Chemistry ensures that quality materials are used in highway projects by maintaining a system of sampling, testing, documentation, and reporting of test results for focus areas including: performance graded (PG) asphalt binders, asphalt emulsions, cutback asphalts, and various asphaltic products. Bituminous chemistry also maintains the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) accreditation for PG asphalt binders and emulsified asphalts and manages certification policies and approved lists for PG asphalt binders, asphalt emulsions, and cutback asphalts. Refer to Part II Material Group Details of the Manual for Materials Inspection to determine material requirements.
