U.S. Business 20 from Shaw Road through the State Street/Appleton Road intersection in Belvidere
The Illinois Department of Transportation appreciated everyone attending the virtual public hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The hearing reviewed the proposed improvements, associated environmental impacts, and right-of-way needs anticipated from the Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Study of U.S. Business Route 20 from Shaw Road through the State Street/Appleton Road intersection in Belvidere. IDOT also held an in-person comment event on October 30th at the Rivers Edge Recreation Center in Belvidere from 1 to 4 p.m. If you were unable to attend this event, we are still taking comments. As a part of the historic and bipartisan Rebuild Illinois plan, the Illinois Department of Transportation is continuing a Phase 1, Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Study for U.S. Business 20 from Shaw Road through the State Street/Appleton Road intersection in Belvidere
The study evaluates reconstruction of approximately 4 miles of roadway and the expansion from two lanes to four lanes to accommodate future traffic projections.
This website has been created to provide information to the public about the project as the study develops and to facilitate public input by providing a means to ask questions or comment on the project.
The first Virtual Public Information Meeting was held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. This meeting introduced the Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Study for the proposed roadway improvement. The meeting included a PowerPoint presentation outlining the proposed study as well as a question and answer session to solicit feedback pertaining to the existing conditions and proposed improvements. A second online virtual Public Information Meeting was held on Thursday, May 11. The purpose of the meeting was to present the latest design and to solicit additional feedback from the public.
