Efficient Project Delivery
IDOT received the Award of Excellence in Urban Highways from the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Excellence in Highway Design Awards Program in the efficient project delivery category for its Reconstruction of South Lake Shore Drive.
IDOT was recognized by the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) for organizational integration in its planning approach to Context Sensitive Solutions.
Safety
IDOT received the Safety Leadership Award from AASHTO for driving down fatalities on Illinois roadways.
IDOT received 1st place in the National Chiefs of Police Challenge: Special Law Enforcement Category.
IDOT received the US DOT Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) Leadership Award for its Commercial Motor Vehicle Section- Compliance Reviews.
IDOT received one of AASHTO's 2010 Sweet Sixteen High Value Research Project awards for "Speed Photo Enforcement."
Sustainable Practices
IDOT was recognized by the Federal Highways Administration (FHWA) for its exemplary Ecosystem Initiative, in concert with the Tollway, on the North Chicago wetland/habitat restoration just south of Buckley Road and east of the Tri-State Tollway (I-94).
IDOT received the Green Government Award for its Rain Barrel Elementary School Contest and miscellaneous other green initiatives under way at the department.
FHWA recognized IDOT for its exemplary Human Environment Initiatives and exemplary Ecosystem Initiatives. This award acknowledged Illinois’ transportation initiatives to improve the human and natural environments.
IDOT received the Governor’s Green Vendor Award during the Illinois State Fair for its use of plant-based inks and biodegradable supplies.
IDOT was recognized by the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago and Citizens Actions/Illinois for its construction management practices to improve air quality.
IDOT received one of AASHTO's 2012 Sweet Sixteen High Value Research Project awards for " Speed Photo Enforcement."
