IDOT Region 4
IDOT’s Region 4 encompasses District 6 and District 7. Located in central Illinois, the region is home to 36,208 miles of roads, including 3,713 state system miles. Region 4 covers a band of counties that includes the widest portion of Illinois, both the Mississippi and Illinois rivers, and hosts three Illinois Scenic Byways. In addition to the Great River Road and Historic Route 66, the Historic National Road (U.S. 40) spans Illinois from the Indiana state line, just east of Weaver to the Metro East area across the river from St. Louis.
With numerous rail lines and spanning 32 counties, the region hosts three Amtrak corridors including stops in Quincy, Springfield and Effingham. Bike paths and bicycle-friendly roads are numerous in this region. Take Interstate 72 or explore the numerous state parks. Book a flight or take the train to the state’s capital, Springfield, to be a tourist for the day, where you can visit the area’s museums and historic landmarks, or travel to Effingham to visit beautiful Lake Sara. Options are bountiful in central Illinois.
