SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state are reminding motorists to drive sober this holiday season. The annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to keep alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers off Illinois roads will run through Jan. 2. In addition to impaired driving and seat belt offenders, law enforcement also will show zero tolerance for speeding, distracted driving and other traffic violations. Read more...
Winter storm featuring snow, high winds and bitter cold to make travel treacherous

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police announced Wednesday that a major winter storm is expected to create dangerous travel conditions across the state Thursday and Friday, strongly urging the public to adjust plans and postpone unnecessary trips. The mixture of snow, rapidly falling temperatures and strong wind gusts is expected to produce blizzard conditions by Thursday afternoon, with extremely slick roads, little to no visibility and potentially life-threating wind chills if you become stranded.

Final pieces of Jane Byrne Interchange open early Friday

CHICAGO — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the remaining ramps and lanes closed for the Jane Byrne Interchange reconstruction will open, weather permitting, during the overnight hours tonight. With the start of the Friday morning commute, the project will be substantially complete, leaving miscellaneous items with minimal traffic impacts to be finished.

SPRINGFIELD - In advance of the anticipated severe winter storm expected to hit the entire state, Governor JB Pritzker today issued a disaster declaration and activated approximately 130 members of the Illinois National Guard to ensure all state resources are available to deal with the heavy snow, ice, and blizzard conditions expected over the coming days. Gov. Pritzker Announces Nearly $220 Million in Rebuild Illinois Funding to Support Local Transit, Ports Projects

METRO EAST - Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that almost $111.4 million has been awarded to transit providers downstate as part of the historic, bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital program. The governor also announced an additional $108.3 million for public ports in Illinois. The two announcements, combined with earlier commitments of $40 million to build a port in Cairo, $244 million in additional funding to downstate transit and $96 million to extend MetroLink Service to MidAmerica Airport, contribute to a combined $601 million commitment to ports and downstate transit, reinforcing the governor's priority to create economic opportunity by moving freight and people more safely and efficiently while improving all modes of Illinois transportation.

Gov. Pritzker Advances Vision to Rebuild I-80, Announces Next Phase of Houbolt Road Project in Joliet

JOLIET - Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) were joined by local officials today to announce the next phase of construction on the new Houbolt Road bridge and interchange, a critical piece of the governor's $1.2 billion commitment to improve and modernize Interstate 80 through the bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital program. The entire project, funded by an estimated $200 million in public and private funding, will create hundreds of construction and permanent jobs while improving safety and intermodal activity throughout the region.
