Rest Area Agreements
Newspaper Distribution and Travel Publications
In accordance with United States Code, Title 23, Section 111, the department grants the nonexclusive right to locate, operate, and maintain newspaper vending machines (news racks) for the purpose of selling newspapers at Interstate highway rest areas open for public use in Illinois. In accordance with the same regulation, the department grants the nonexclusive right to locate, operate, and maintain travel related publication distribution boxes (travel boxes) for the purpose of distributing travel related booklets/pamphlets at Interstate highway rest areas open for public use in Illinois. Parties interested in operating news racks must enter into a distribution agreement with this department and the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services prior to placing news racks in any highway rest area. Parties interested in operating travel boxes must enter into a distribution agreement with this department prior to placing travel boxes in any highway rest area.
