In addition to global competitiveness, IDOT cares about the safety of all motorists and travelers. State and federal safety regulations require drivers of commercial motor vehicles, including large trucks and motor coaches, to meet certain minimum standards when operating on Illinois interstates and highways. IDOT issues commercial vehicle registration and oversize and overweight permits to ensure the safety of truckers and motorists alike, to protect and preserve our highway infrastructure, and to accommodate commercial operations as conveniently as possible.
