Public Involvement
This Project is following IDOT’s Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) policy. CSS provides a collaborative approach that involves all stakeholders to develop a facility that fits into its surroundings and preserves scenic, aesthetic, historic, and environmental resources while maintaining safety and mobility. The purpose of CSS policy is to gather and consider input on the project from all interested stakeholders, and to encourage design flexibility to incorporate environmental and community values, as well as meet transportation objectives.
A stakeholder is anyone who could be affected by the project and has an interest in the outcome. Stakeholders are identified as all residents of the project area, users of the facility, and those interested parties who can directly affect the outcome of a planning process.
Community Advisory Group
A Community Advisory Group (CAG) has been established to provide broad perspectives as well as community level input regarding all aspects of the MacArthur Boulevard project. The CAG consists of representatives from the City of Springfield, Sangamon County, local organizations, transportation professionals, special interest groups, businesses, and community members. It is anticipated the CAG may meet up to four times throughout the project.
Public Meetings
Two to three Public Meetings will be held for this project to gather input and answer questions from the public. Events may be held in person and will also include a virtual component. The first meeting will be held in summer 2021 to introduce the project and gather feedback on the project’s purpose and need.
