Bicycle Maps
Illinois pedestrians and bicyclists can enjoy a large network of Illinois trails, paths, and streets for recreational purposes and daily commutes. To create awareness of these facilities the State of Illinois has created a variety of options for viewing the extensive system.
Illinois offers online and printed maps for the user’s convenience. The online options are the Bicycle Level of Service (BLOS) Map which is the most up to date or the static online digital maps. For printed options we offer paper maps that can be mailed to a requested address. All of these options are explained in further detail below.
Online Bike Map (Bicycle Level of Service)
The Bicycle Level of Service (BLOS) map is an innovative tool developed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). This map is a real-time reflection of the bike network in Illinois created to provide cyclists the best recourses available. It was developed by assessing various factors such as roadway conditions, traffic volumes, and safety features, this map provides a comprehensive analysis of the cycling environment. IDOT aims to enhance cycling experiences, promote active lifestyles, and foster sustainable transportation options for all residents and visitors.
The BLOS helps illustrate a (determine what level of experience) cyclist's level of comfort when using the facility/accommodation.
