Interstate 57 Expansion in Southern Illinois
The I-57 expansion is one of the largest corridor improvements projects in our system, and is undergoing a multi-year transformation, expanding from four to six lanes. This major infrastructure upgrade is designed to ease congestion, improve safety, and accommodate future growth along a nearly 37-mile corridor on I-57 in southern Illinois. Construction is ongoing through 2028.
Rebuild Illinois is investing nearly $325 million to complete the expansion of I-57 from Marion to Mt. Vernon, as well as replacing bridges over Marcum Branch, Gun Creek, Dodds Creek and reconstructing the I-57/64 interchange with Illinois 15.
