SCAM ALERT:  A current text message smishing scam claims recipients owe money associated with traffic tickets, tolls, and other fines.  These are not legitimate messages from the Illinois Department of Transportation.  If you receive a message report it to the Federal Trade Commission and/or the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Reporting

IDOT uses motor vehicle crash information for a number of critical services including, crash data analyses, safety program design, and roadway engineering design with the ultimate goal of preventing fatalities or injuries on Illinois roadways. In addition to crash reporting, IDOT collects and compiles data for the Traffic and Pedestrian Stop Study. For more information on this study, please visit the Traffic and Pedestrian Stop Study (Reporting and Results) webpage.

IDOT also evaluates each highway safety project with enforcement components such as: Local Alcohol Program (LAP) and Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) using crash and citation data provided by local police departments.
