Did You Know?

  • This project involves approximately 1.0 mile of Green Mount Road
  • The northern limit of the project is at the intersection of Green Mount Road and IL Route 161
  • The southern limit of the project is at the intersection of Green Mount Road and IL Route 177
  • IDOT has jurisdiction of Green Mount Road from IL Route 161 to IL Route 177. Green Mount Road north and south of the project limits is within St. Clair County jurisdiction.
  • The existing typical section for Green Mount Road within the project limits consists of two 12 ft. wide lanes with 5 ft. wide paved shoulders.
  • The posted speed limit on Green Mount Road throughout the project limits in 45 mph
  • The area surrounding the project limits consists of both residential and commercial properties as well as the Southwester Illinois College (SWIC) campus.
  • Within the project limits a MetroLink bicycle trail crosses Green Mount Road 0.3 miles north of IL Route 177, runs on the east side of Green Mount Road to the Weatherstone Drive/ SWIC entrance, and then circles around the SWIC campus(connecting with the MetroLink station).
  • There is a MetroLink overpass and a bicycle overpass structure that crosses Green Mount Road 0.3 miles north of the IL Route 177 intersection and one that crosses IL Route 161 0.5 miles east of Green Mount Road.

What improvements will be made, will additional lanes will be added?

At this early stage of project development, the study team has identified a problem statement. Alternatives to address the problem are currently being evaluated.

Will improvements at the intersections within the project limits be included?

All intersections within the project limits will be analyzed for improvement. The Scope of the Project will be determined during the Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) process and the Phase I study.

Will right of way or easements be required for this improvement?

The Scope of the Project will be determined during the Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) process and the Phase I study. Depending on the improvements that are proposed for this project, right of way or easements may be required. Right-of-way and easements, if required for this improvement, will be purchased during Phase II, beginning after the preliminary design has been approved.
