Kankakee County: Manteno Interchange Reconstruction Project (Interstate 57 at County Highway 9)
Overview and Scope
The proposed reconstruction of the interchange of Interstate 57 and Kankakee County Highway 9 (West Division Street) involves improving drainage, safety, mobility, and capacity.
Alignment changes are proposed for the entrance and exit ramps of this diamond interchange, including the realignment of Cypress Street. The proposed improvements will require replacement of the bridge carrying County Highway 9 over I-57.
The project limits on County Highway 9 will extend from Spruce Street to approximately 200 feet east of Marquette Plaza. County Highway 9 will be widened to a five-lane section with auxiliary turn lanes and I-57 will be milled and resurfaced as part of the project.
All ramps are expected to remain open during construction. However, temporary closures may be necessary to some local streets, entrances, and ramps. Acquisition of additional right of way will be required. An updated analysis of potential highway traffic noise impacts was performed during the study in accordance with current IDOT policy.
Phase I (the Project Study) addendum is anticipated to be completed in 2025. Phase II (design) engineering and land acquisition process have started. Construction is currently funded in the Fiscal Year 2025-2030 Proposed Highway Improvement Program.
