Project Initiated
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has initiated the Illinois Route 2 Phase I Study. This study will examine transportation needs of and solutions for this corridor through an extensive public involvement process. The study area is located in Winnebago County, extending approximately 2.0 miles from north of Auburn Street on the south to north of Riverside Blvd. on the north, all within the City of Rockford, Illinois.
Public Informational Open House Held March 9, 2011
IDOT hosted a second public meeting, the Public Informational Open House, for the IL 2 N. Main Street Project Study on March 9, 2011. The meeting was held at the Spectrum School located at 2909 N. Main Street in Rockford. The purpose of the meeting was to share initial design concept recommendations developed by the IL 2 Citizen’s Advisory Group (click here for meeting materials), and solicit feedback from interested stakeholders.
The meeting was held in an open house format, and interested persons could visit anytime between 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. Attendees had the opportunity to review exhibits, provide comments, and meet with IDOT and study team representatives to discuss the project.
IDOT Held Public Awareness Meeting to Kick-Off Project
IDOT hosted the first public awareness meeting to kick off the Illinois Route 2 Phase I Study on August 5, 2010. It was held at EIGERlab which is located at 605 Fulton Avenue in Rockford. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the project and discuss the concerns of the department as well as concerns identified locally. Interested persons could visit anytime between 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. IDOT provided information regarding the study schedule and process, study area characteristics and public involvement opportunities. Attendees had the opportunity to review exhibits, provide comments and meet with IDOT and study team representatives on a one-on-one basis.
Public Informational Open House Held July 11, 2012
The third public meeting for the Illinois Route 2/N. Main Street Phase I Study was held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Spectrum School, 2909 N. Main Street, Rockford, Illinois from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm. The meeting was held in an open house format with displays for review and the opportunity for attendees to provide comments, suggestions, issues and concerns.
The primary goal of the meeting was to share with the public the preliminary layout for the N. Main Street (IL 2) corridor study that extends from north of Auburn Street to north of Riverside Boulevard in Rockford. In addition, the meeting was intended to provide the study team with a better understanding of stakeholders’ thoughts and concerns regarding the preliminary layout of the corridor. Attendees had the opportunity to view the proposed details of the project as well as the anticipated right-of-way and temporary construction easement needs. Attendees also had the opportunity to view and comment on the anticipated impacts of the project to Brown Park.
Note: IDOT projects typically have three distinct phases. Phase I (or the project Study) consists of developing the project scope, environmental studies and preliminary design of a project. Phase II (Design) consists of refining the design to develop contract plans and land acquisition. Phase III (Construction) consists of the actual construction of the project.
