Overview

Illinois 81 (West Sixth Street) is an urban minor arterial providing the motoring public access to Kewanee, Illinois from the west. This arterial is mostly surrounded by residences but does provide access to businesses and parks. IDOT and the community have recognized that the pavement needs complete replacement and drainage must be improved to maintain safety and access on this roadway. 

Plans for Illinois 81 include:

  • Reconstruction from 0.2 miles west of Union Street to 0.3 Miles W. of IL 78 with one 13-foot lane in each direction, curb and gutter, storm sewers, and culvert upgrades.
  • Sidewalk replacement on the south side of Illinois 81 and a new multi-use path on the north side, which will provide pedestrian/bicycle access from Union Street to North Lexington Avenue.
