Project Overview
IDOT has launched Phase I Engineering work for MacArthur Boulevard in Springfield between Wabash/Stanford Avenue and South Grand Avenue. This 1.5-mile corridor is part of a walkable community and needs improvements to enhance safety, capacity, operations, drainage, pedestrian, multi-modal (bicycle and transit), Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, and other infrastructure needs as they relate to meeting the project objectives for improving the area.
The Phase I Engineering will affirm improvements previously identified during the 2017 Feasibility Study, determine any new improvements needed, complete additional evaluation of previous developed alternatives, possible development of new alternatives, and refinement of previously developed alternatives for evaluation. It is anticipated MacArthur Boulevard will need to be widened through a portion of the corridor.
