McClugage Bridge Project

The Illinois Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is conducting a study of the eastbound McClugage Bridge (US 150) over the Illinois River between Peoria and East Peoria. The project will study the potential removal and replacement or rehabilitation of the bridge.

Although the eastbound McClugage Bridge has been rehabilitated several times, the basic structure is over 70 years old and is approaching the end of its serviceable life. Updated design standards, new safety criteria, increased daily traffic, and the need for bicycle and pedestrian accommodations are factors that must be considered for this major crossing point over the Illinois River. These factors indicate the need for another rehabilitation, or complete reconstruction of the eastbound McClugage Bridge structure.
