The study focused on the I-55 interchange access and included the supporting local roadway network within the entire study area. The preferred alternative received concurrence from the Federal Highway Administration on September 13, 2018 and includes the following four independent improvements. US 52 from River Road to Houbolt Road
- Improvements include the widening of US 52 from east of River Road to Houbolt Road to provide two travel lanes in each direction, a median and a shared use path throughout the corridor. There are also additional turn lanes being proposed at intersections.
- In 2025 the project began Phase II, Contract Plan Preparation and Land Acquisition. Phase II is anticipated to require 3 years to complete.
- Phase III, construction will only begin once Phase II is complete and is dependent on future funding.
- The project is included in the Department’s multi-year transportation program.
- Construction is complete for this project. It converted the existing partial access interchange at I-55 and IL 59 into a full access diverging diamond interchange and the addition of auxiliary lanes on I-55 between its interchanges with IL 59 and IL 52.
Olympic Boulevard from I-55 East Frontage Road to Houbolt Road
- This project is under construction and is being led by the City of Joliet.
- The project improvements include the extension of Olympic Boulevard to the East Frontage Road of I-55
Seil Road from Raven Road to IL 59
- This project is under construction and is being led by the Village of Shorewood.
- The project improvements include mini roundabouts at the Seil Road intersections with Raven Road and States Lane
