Overview

The purpose of this project is to improve the existing U.S. 52 Fox River bridge while minimizing impacts to the traveling public and its surrounding environment. The bridge is owned and maintained by IDOT and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and therefore accorded protection under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966.

The proposed improvement will require demolition and removal of the historic bridge. IDOT intends to coordinate with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) through procedures pursuant to Section 106 of NHPA, as amended (36 CFR 800).
