SCAM ALERT:  A current text message smishing scam claims recipients owe money associated with traffic tickets, tolls, and other fines.  These are not legitimate messages from the Illinois Department of Transportation.  If you receive a message report it to the Federal Trade Commission and/or the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Schedule

The Illinois Department of Transportation typically conducts projects in three phases:

  • Phase I: consists of identifying the transportation needs, evaluating alternatives, and selecting a preferred alternative concept. This process is supported by preliminary engineering and environmental studies, agency coordination, and stakeholder outreach.
  • Phase II: consists of developing detailed contract plans and acquiring property needed for the project.
  • Phase III: consists of the actual construction of the project.

Illinois 38 Project Schedule

  • Phase I is anticipated to be completed by the summer of 2023.
  • Phase II is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2023 and be completed by late 2024.
  • Construction funding is included in the Department’s Multi-Year Program. However, a construction timetable has not been established. At this time, it is anticipated that the earliest construction could start would be in the spring of 2025.
