Overview and Schedule
It is anticipated that all traffic lanes will be open Summer 2022
Contract 60X10 – Normantown Road to Rodeo Drive (119th St.) & The Interchange
- Complete re-decking of the existing bridge structure carrying Weber Road over Interstate 55 (I-55).
- Construction of a new bridge structure adjacent to the existing bridge structure to form a diverging diamond interchange.
- Weber Road – construction of three lanes 12’ wide in each direction separated by a varying 6’ to 30’ wide raised curbed median.
- Intersection improvements at Normantown Road, Lakeview Drive, Remington Boulevard / Windham Parkway, Carlow Drive, and Rodeo Drive / Remington Boulevard.
- Complete replacement of existing roadway and interchange signage, and drainage system.
- Construction of a separate 10’ wide multi-use path and a 5’ wide sidewalk is also included with the improvement.
- Traffic signal improvements at the intersections of Normantown Road, interchange ramps, Remington Boulevard / Windham Parkway, and Rodeo Drive / Remington Boulevard.
- Intersection lighting at the intersections of Normantown Road, Lakeview Drive, Remington Boulevard / Windham Parkway, Carlow Drive, and Rodeo Drive / Remington Boulevard. Lighting on high mast towers are proposed at the interchange ramps.
- Construction of noise walls and retaining walls.
- Aesthetic landscaping.
Contract 61D47 – Romeo Road (135th St.) to Normantown Road
- Weber Road – construction of three lanes 12’ wide in each direction separated by a varying 6’ to 30’ wide raised curbed median.
- Construction of a separate 8’ wide multi-use path and a 5’ sidewalk is also included with the improvement.
- Intersection improvements at Romeo Road (135th St.) and Carillon Drive / Grand Boulevard.
- Complete replacement of existing roadway signage and drainage system.
- Traffic signal improvements at the intersections of Romeo Road (135th Street) and Grand Boulevard / Carillon Drive.
- Construction of noise walls and retaining walls.
- Aesthetic landscaping
MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC
- The project corridor will utilize stage construction and 3-stages are anticipated to carry out the proposed work.
- Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained along Weber Road over the limits of improvement.
- Vehicular traffic will be shifted onto temporary pavement at times to facilitate construction.
- Temporary traffic signals will be installed at signal improvement locations.
PROJECT SCHEDULE & COST
- Both contracts of the project were let in March, 2018.
- Construction activities are anticipated to last 2 full seasons. Completion date is anticipated to be the end of 2021 construction season.
- Total construction cost for the project corridor is ~$68M.
- Contract 60X10 – Funded Interchange, State segment, and north County section. Construction cost is estimated at ~$48 million.
- Contract 61D47 – Funded by Will County. Construction cost is estimated at ~$20 million.
