It is anticipated that all traffic lanes will be open Summer 2022

June 9, 2022 Update

  • To accommodate the installation of traffic signals and crossovers to put Weber Road traffic into the full diverging diamond configuration, left turn movement at the interchange will not be allowed starting at 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 20.
  • During this time motorists should follow the posted detours.  See below detour exhibit titled 60X10 Detour Exhibit – Updated.
  • Construction activities have resumed, and the overall project is anticipated to be completed later this summer.  See below press release titled 4.6.22 Weber Road @ I-55 resumes.

March 11, 2022 Update

Contract 61D47 – Romeo Road (135th St.) to Normantown Road

  • All traffic on Weber Road is now in its final configuration throughout the entire project.
  • Over the next few months, work will consist of:
    • Traffic Signal & lighting installations
    • Final landscaping, restoration & cleanup
    • Punch list work.

Contract 60X10 – Normantown Road to Rodeo Drive (119th St.) & The Interchange

  • All traffic on Weber Road is now in Stage 3 configuration throughout the entire project.
  • Lane width restrictions on I-55 have been removed.
  • Over the next few months, work will consist of:
    • Remove existing and temporary pavement from the center of Weber Rd.
    • Storm sewer installation.
    • Installation of left turn lanes and median barrier curb.
    • Landscape restoration.
    • Traffic signal & lighting installations.
    • Sidewalk and shared use path installation.
    • Overnight lane closures on I-55 for electrical conduit installation

December 28, 2020 Update

 Contract 61D47 – Romeo Road (135th St.) to Normantown Road

  • All traffic on Weber Road is now in Stage 2 configuration throughout the entire project.
  • Over the next few months, work will consist of:
    • Removal of existing pavement for pipeline removal operations.

Contract 60X10 – Normantown Road to Rodeo Drive (119th St.) & The Interchange

  • All traffic on Weber Road is now in Stage 2 configuration throughout the entire project.
  • Lane restrictions on I-55 have been removed for the winter.
  • Over the next few months, work will consist of:
    • Removal of existing pavement for pipeline removal operations.
    • Demolition of the existing Weber Road bridge over I-55
    • Storm sewer work

July 15, 2020 Update

 Contract 61D47 – Romeo Road (135th St.) to Normantown Road

  • Traffic was shifted at the north end of the project bringing the entire job fully into Stage 1.
  • The aggregate base for the new southbound lanes was completed south of N Carillon Dr. This allowed three lanes of the new permanent concrete pavement to be placed.
  • The noise abatement wall was started and completed this past month.
  • Pavement removal at the north end of the project has allowed excavation to place the working platform for the next stage of the ground improvement.
  • The next month will concentrate on completing the ground improvement along with more permanent concrete pavement being completed for intersections and side roads.

 Contract 60X10 – Normantown Road to Rodeo Drive (119th St.) & The Interchange

  • All traffic is now in Stage 1 configuration throughout the entire project.
  • Pavement, curb and median removal was completed from the interchange down to the south limit.
  • Placing of embankment between the interchange and Normantown Road has begun.
  • Storm sewer removals and backfilling are continuing project wide.
  • Storm sewer installation is on-going Remington to Lakeview.
  • Construction of the retaining wall at the southwest corner of 119th and Weber continues.
  • Embankment has been placed to begin construction of the abutments for the new bridge.
  • Earthwork continues on the exit ramp from inbound 55 to Weber Road.
  • On I-55 in the median, the existing center pier crash wall is complete, the excavations have been backfilled and median barrier replaced.
  • For the next month, posts for the noise wall will be installed.
  • The new roadbed will be cut to grade and aggregate placed for the base north of the interchange.
  • Construction of the retaining wall at 119th and Weber will continue.
  • Grading and fill operations will be on-going in all four infields of the interchange.
  • At the new bridge, pile supports for the abutments will be installed.
  • On I-55 at the existing center pier, epoxy repair of cracks and formed concrete repairs will be performed.
  • At the existing bridge abutments, drilled shafts with soldier piles will be installed for retaining walls.
  • The working platform for installation of ground columns will be done in the slough area followed by installation of the columns.
  • Storm sewer installation will be completed on Normantown Road followed by cutting the road to grade and placing aggregate for the road base.
  • Storm sewer will be installed between Normantown and the interchange.
