Study Progress
This web site provided information on the progress of the study, relevant project-related materials, and opportunities to participate in the public involvement process.
The I 55 at Weber Road phase I study is now complete. Design Approval for a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) was obtained in January 2014.
Phase I is often referred to as the Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Study Phase. Phase I involves the analysis of existing and future conditions, defining the Purpose and Need for an improvement, and developing and analyzing improvement alternatives. The culmination of the Phase I Study concludes with the selection of the preferred alternative.
Phase II is the design and land acquisition stage in the project process. After a preferred alternative receives Design Approval, plans are developed and required right of way is acquired. Phase II typically takes 18-24 months to complete.
Phase III is the construction phase for the improvement.
Phase I Engineering was funded through a partnership with IDOT and Will County. Design approval for a Diverging Diamond Interchange was obtained in January 2014. Phase II Engineering, Land Acquisition, Construction and Construction Engineering for this project is included in the Department’s FY 2015-2020 Multi-Modal Transportation Improvement Program and contingent upon local financial participation for improvements to adjacent highway facilities under local jurisdiction.
