U.S. 20 Ramps at Illinois Avenue and Lavoie Avenue

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is completing preliminary engineering and environmental studies (Phase I) for the improvement of the US. 20 ramps at Illinois Avenue and Lavoie Avenue in the City of Elgin in Kane County. The proposed project is anticipated to consist of closing the existing U.S. 20 ramps at Illinois Avenue and Lavoie Avenue and modifying the existing roadways to accommodate the ramp closures.

This project is included in IDOT's FY 2024-2029 Proposed Highway Improvement Program. Current engineering efforts are targeting a construction contract letting in 2025 contingent upon plan readiness and funding availability through future annual legislative appropriations.

This website has been created to provide the public with educational information and materials regarding the U.S.  20 Ramps at Illinois Avenue and Lavoie Avenue Phase I study.

Note: IDOT projects typically have three distinct phases. Phase I (or the project Study) consists of developing the project scope, environmental studies, and preliminary design of a project. Phase II (Design) consists of refining the design to develop contract plans and land acquisition. Phase III (Construction) consists of the actual construction of the project.
