Illinois Safe Routes to School Program

The 2023 cycle of Safe Routes to School will open August 1, 2023.  To apply for non-infrastructure projects, applicants must be registered in GATA and GATA Uniform documents must be submitted with the application.  You may find the application forms below under Application Materials.

Applications should be submitted electronically to as one group of documents.  All applications must be received by COB (4:30 PM CDT) on October 2, 2023, to be considered eligible for this round of funding.  For any questions or concerns related to this funding opportunity, please email

2023 Cycle of Safe Routes to School

The next cycle of Safe Routes to School will begin August 1st and close on October 2, 2023, at 4:30 PM CDT.  To assist in your preparation of the upcoming cycle, the Illinois Department of Transportation has partnered with Active Transportation Alliance to offer an informational webinar series. Recording of the webinars and slides from the webinars will be available on the Active Transportation Alliance website. Registration links are provided below.
